About Us

We, Rikkyo University International Law Society, or RILS is an academic organisation established in March, 2025.

We aim to develop members’ skill on legal thinking, researching, presentation and leadership through participation in Inter-University International Law Moot Court Competition(s).

RILS is a perfect place for you to start your journey into the field of International Law!

One Group, One Focus.

Moot

The main activity of RILS, the international law moot court, is a competition in which participants represent two fictional states and make logical arguments using international law.
Based on the legal dispute between the fictional states provided in the problem (or Compromi), teams review the relevant facts and international law in real-world to prepare a written statement of argument (or memorial) before the competition. During the competition, oralists representing the team answer questions from the judges and present their arguments based on the memorials of their own state and the opposing state.
